Age 78, passed away after a long battle with cancer at home with his loving family at his side, Sunday, March 11, 2012. Melvin was born May 4, 1933 in Lyon Manor Twp., Michigan the son of Charles and Irene "Hamp" Marvin. Mel was a proud Veteran who served in the United States Army. He retired from General Motors after 28 years of service. Although Mel loved his family first and foremost, his second love was his Appaloosa horse farm. He would work a full day at Fisher Body and then go home to farm and take care of his beloved Appaloosa horses. Mel was a Founding Member of the Michigan Appaloosa Horse Association. Beyond all of that he and his wife, Aggie had a photography business that they would work at out of the home for many years taking wonderful photo's of various occasions. Needless to say with four children, working at Fisher Body, photography business, farming and his Appaloosa horses, Mel was a busy man. A loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, cousin and friend will be dearly missed by all that knew him. Mel is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Aggie; daughters, Gina "Marvin" Mulkey, Dana (Cowboy) Peters, Vera (Pete Eland) Marvin and Neva (Mike) Austin; grandchildren, Edgerton, Calach, Doug, Audrey, Becca, Charlie and Angel; great granddaughter, Victoria. Also surviving are many cousins and friends. There will be a Celebration of Mel's life later this Spring. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Michigan Appaloosa Horse Association Scholarship Fund in memory of Mel. The family is being served by the Palmer, Bush & Jensen Family Funeral Home, Holt Chapel. Condolences can be sent to the family at www.palmerbush.com.
